MY STORY
I am bilingual, but I didn't grow up this way. My mono-lingual life ended when I went to an international school in the USA, aged seventeen. No, I wasn't young enough to become bilingual, but here's the thing. I managed to find a way to operate in English mode to cope with my coursework.
I must say I have had to work on retaining my Japanese, but it's paid off - now I can read and write in both languages equally well. Here are my brief profiles (please see :

I've been a translator, interpreter and writer in Japan and Britain, having worked for The Asahi Shimbun in the UK and The Daily Telegraph's Tokyo Correspondent Bureau (as a researcher).
